Work/Life Balance Initiatives

Commuting, kids, hobbies, school, family, volunteer work and other activities all compete for your time, and balancing priorities can at times be stressful. The Human Resources department at NFRMC recognizes the demands on your time and has put programs in place to address them. The programs listed below are just a few of the ways North Florida Regional Medical Center is striving to help you balance work and life.

Job Sharing

NFRMC recognizes that some employees need extra flexibility and has put a program in place that allows employees to share a job or a shift. In the job sharing role, you and your partner work out how you want to work your shift.

Flexible Scheduling

Many NFRMC departments schedule in four-, eight- and 12-hour increments. We also offer fantastic differentials for Weekend Special Positions - weekend-only positions - in addition to regular evening/night differentials.

Employee Activities

Our employees not only work together, they play together! NFRMC supports an Employee Activity Committee (EAC) composed of employees from different areas of the hospital who are dedicated to making NFRMC a fun place to work! To start off the new year, the EAC sponsored a holiday gala that included a day with Santa for employees' children, a flotilla of candles on the pond and holiday treats for everyone. Other events include Hospital Week activities, Valentine's Day carnations, a gigantic picnic by the lake for employees and their families, a watermelon fest and a corn boil. There also are opportunities to join basketball, bowling leagues and other activities all year.

Communication

Every morning, employees can log onto the nearest computer and get the latest issue of Virtual Rounds - the NFRMC newsletter that helps employees keep in touch with all the activities going on at the hospital. Virtual Rounds lists employee birthdays, an inspirational thought for the day, and also features a "virtual garage sale" section where employees can buy, sell and trade goods.

NFRMC also offers an employee newsletter every other month called "Pulse," which is produced by Marketing and Public Relations. This newsletter features medical breakthroughs, employee kudos, photos of hospital events, letters from former patients, initiatives taking place at the hospital and NorthStar nominees. This is the place to look to find out what's happening at the hospital!

Community Interaction and Support

NFRMC and its employees are committed to helping build a better community. You can find NFRMC employees at cancer walks, March of Dimes fundraisers and the American Heart Walk, among other community events. Staff also sponsors the United Way and hosts a variety of events such as bake sales to support local organizations as well as Care Share - a service that provides funds for NFRMC employees in times of emergency.

Employee Assistance

NFRMC offers an excellent Employee Assistance Program, through which employees are given three free, confidential counseling sessions with well-respected licensed psychologists. These sessions can be used to help employees deal with work/life issues such as marriage, divorce, death or other common but stressful life issues.

Wellness Campaign

"Caring for Your Health" is the message of NFRMC's employee wellness campaign, designed to provide educational resources, health screenings and wellness programs in an effort to raise awareness and encourage healthy lifestyles. The program provides employee health fairs, screenings and educational discussions on a variety of health issues. NFRMC's Wellness Team, made up of a multidisciplinary group, directs the effort with input from staff.
