February 01, 2012
Gainesville, FL – North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) has announced that Chief Medical Officer Scott Medley, MD will retire effective February 3, 2012. Ann Weber, MD becomes the hospital's new Chief Medical Officer.
"It has been a pleasure to work with Scott Medley, and he has helped to guide our hospital through a time of incredible growth, as well as through a time of great change in the healthcare industry," said Ward Boston III, President and Chief Executive Officer of North Florida Regional. "In addition to his vast experience as a physician, Scott is also a leader in our community, and that only added to the impact he had on our behalf."
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Dr. Medley also served in the United States Army and completed his medical residency while in the service. He came to Gainesville more than 30 years ago to direct the Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Florida. Medley then entered private practice, becoming a managing partner of Gainesville Family Physicians with medical staff privileges at both Alachua General Hospital and North Florida Regional Medical Center. When Alachua General was closed in 2009, Dr. Medley became Chief Medical Officer at NFRMC.
"I am blessed to have had a wonderful career here in Gainesville," Dr. Medley says. "I am very proud of the relationship I have had with physicians, nurses and other staff members. It has been especially satisfying to mentor fellow hospitalists, and I am equally proud and grateful to have played a leadership role in this community that has become my home. It's not easy to leave, but my wife and I know it's the right time. We look forward to relaxing, travelling and to spending time with our family."
During Dr. Medley's tenure as Chief Medical Officer at NFRMC, the hospital has experienced significant growth. Following the opening of a new Cancer Center and expanded heart catheterization labs in 2009, the hospital completed a $35 million expansion in 2011 and has begun a $62 million expansion that will add a new four-story patient toward to the front of the hospital.
Beginning February 3, Ann Weber, MD, steps in as Chief Medical Officer at NFRMC. She completed her medical training and residency at the University of Florida in 1998. After practicing medicine at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, she returned to Gainesville in 2000, serving on the medical staff as a hospitalist at North Florida Regional Medical Center. In 2007, she became medical director of North Florida Regional's Senior Healthcare Center at Springhill. Dr. Weber begins her role as Chief Medical Officer with a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the health system that includes Gainesville’s community hospital.
"If anyone can step into this important role and hit the ground running, it is definitely Dr. Ann Weber," says Matt Davis, Chief Operating Officer at NFRMC. "In her work as a hospitalist here at North Florida Regional Medical Center and in her leadership role with our Senior Healthcare Centers, Ann has established herself as someone who knows us and our vision for the future. We are fortunate to have her as our new Chief Medical Officer, and we look forward to working together with her."
"I've always known that we are blessed with high quality, high caliber physicians who provide care in a family-friendly atmosphere at North Florida Regional Medical Center," says Ann Weber, MD. "It is exciting to come into this role at this time of expansion and growth for the hospital, and is an interesting time because healthcare is changing and is different now than it has ever been before. Going forward in this new and changing environment, we will continue to focus on our priority -- providing the best quality care for our patients."
