North Florida Regional Medical Center Announces General Contractor for $58 Million Project

Gainesville, FL– North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) has announced that Charles Perry Construction, Inc. has been selected as the construction manager for the upcoming Phase IV of a multi-phase campus expansion plan, solidifying its regional outreach strategy for the growth of its heart and vascular program.  Along with expansion of The Heart and Vascular Center, Phase IV also includes development of a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  This unit will complement NFRMC’s nationally-recognized maternity program, providing expanded level of care to newborn babies.  Charles Perry Construction will guide the work of all expansion and renovation for the $58 million project.

“We are proud to partner once again with Charles Perry Construction,” said Matt Davis, Chief Operating Officer of North Florida Regional Medical Center.  “In our history of working together, we know we can count on expertise and quality from Charles Perry Construction for a project that is representative of the needs of our community and future growth of our medical center. As we grow, Charles Perry Construction helps grow the community as it employs construction specialists who will complete the work.”

“Charles Perry Construction, Inc. is pleased to be selected as construction manager for the addition that will create a new four-story patient tower, renovate the existing tower and deliver 92 new beds at North Florida Regional Medical Center,” said Breck Weingart, President of Charles Perry Construction, Inc.  “We have been fortunate to be a construction partner for many Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) projects throughout the state of Florida, but it is always special when we are selected to do work at NFRMC in Gainesville where our corporate home office is located.”

Phase IV of the Master Facility Plan comes on the heels of the current (Phase III) hospital expansion,  for which Charles Perry Construction was also selected as construction manager.  Phase III is a 2 story vertical expansion consisting of 28 new critical care beds, including the development of a 12 bed Cardiovascular ICU.  NFRMC leaders expect construction of Phase IV to begin in September of 2011, and the $58 million project to be completed in September 2013.

“We completed our first project at NFRMC in 1990 and have been working almost continuously on the campus since then,” added Weingart. “It is especially heartwarming to know this work will provide several hundred construction jobs during tough economic times. We look forward to building another quality project for NFRMC.”

Phase IV of the multi-phase campus expansion will include the addition of approximately 100,000 square feet of new construction and 20,000 square feet of renovations to the existing hospital.  Completion of a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and additional postpartum beds are planned to meet demand in the growing maternity program and is also a part of the Phase IV expansion.  At the conclusion of the current expansion and the Phase IV expansion, North Florida Regional Medical Center will have grown from a 325-bed facility to a 445-bed full-service medical and surgical acute care referral center.

“When we are finished with these substantial projects, North Florida Regional Medical Center will be better equipped to treat our steady increase of patients,” Davis says. “Investments in the latest medical technology, coupled with our focus on quality and safety, will translate into the best possible patient care at Gainesville’s community hospital.  We are proud that Charles Perry Construction will be working beside us.”

“NFRMC’s commitment to quality patient care mirrors our commitment to provide the highest quality construction services for the betterment of the community where we work and live.” says Vinnie Moreschi, Senior Project Manager for Charles Perry Construction. “We are humbled to be working on another high profile project at NFRMC.
