Band Over Bypass
Band over Bypass refers to performing Adjustable Gastric Banding surgery on patients who have had Gastric Bypass surgery in the past and have regained a significant amount of weight. This usually is due to patients having stretched out their gastric pouch. Two of our surgeons, Drs. Brient and Rose, perform this surgery on patients that meet medical criteria for Band over Bypass. An Upper G.I. series is obtained to assist in that determination.
How it works
The way that the Band over Bypass facilitates weight loss is the same as the Adjustable Gastric Banding. The progression through post-operative diet phases and follow-up visits are also the same as the Adjustable Gastric Banding protocol. However, when it comes to vitamin/mineral supplementation, Band over Bypass patients are advised to follow the vitamin regimen for Gastric Bypass patients.
If you received the Gastric Bypass surgery in the past, have regained a significant amount of weight and have found yourself struggling to lose that weight again, please call our Center and make an appointment with our surgeons to find out whether Band over Bypass is right for you.
