Prepared Childbirth

Five Week Series
This class series is designed to prepare families for the birth of their child.  We recommend this series for first time families.  Topics include:  the last month of pregnancy, labor, the birth process, breathing and relaxation techniques, the postpartum period and the newborn.  A tour of our family-centered maternity unit is included.  Weekend Childbirth classes are also available.

Naturally Focused Childbirth

Five Week Series
This class prepares first time families for the birth of their child.  This class focuses on non-pharmacologic pain relief such as relaxation techniques and other comfort measures.  A tour of our family-centered maternity unit is included.

Newborn Care

Gain confidence in caring for your new baby.  Topics include:  general baby care, bathing, diapering, signs of illness, soothing techniques and more.  By the end of this class you will feel more confident in caring for your baby and gain valuable tips on parenting.  You will also receive an Academy of Pediatrics approved book titled “The First Year.”

Breastfeeding

This class offers important information about the basics of breastfeeding.  Topics include benefits of breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, anatomy, composition of breast milk and positioning.  Partners or support persons are welcomed at this one-night class.  You will also receive a book titled “Breastfeeding, a Great Start.”

Pumping 101

Is it possible to go back to work or school and still breastfeed?  Not only is it possible, it can make the transition smoother.  We’ll give you the information you need to pump and store your most precious commodity:  breast milk!  Perfect for moms who are going back to work or school, moms who will be separated from baby for any reason, or moms who just want to pump occasionally.  Check out the latest in pumping options in this class taught in a fun relaxing atmosphere by a lactation specialist.

Infant CPR

This class will prepare parents for infant breathing, airway and cardiac emergencies.  Teaching includes information, demonstrations and practice.  Each couple will receive a CPR Learning Manikin and skills practice DVD to take home.  This is a one-night class.  This course is designed by the American Heart Association, CPR Anytime program.  This is not a certifying course.

Sibling Class

For all the happiness they bring the arrival of a baby can cause a period of adjustment for everyone, especially siblings.  Our class teaches children about babies in a fun way.  We’ll take an exciting trip to the maternity unit and give children an idea of where their sibling will be born.  Your child will make a card to decorate their sibling’s crib.  Designed for parents and their children ages three to eight.  Your child will also receive a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” t-shirt and a sibling coloring book.

Maternity Unit Tour

Our family-centered maternity unit is a unique facility that will allow the birth of your child to be a private and personal experience.  This guided tour is suitable for the entire family.  Must be at least 32 weeks pregnant to tour.  For a Photo Gallery Tour of the Women’s Center – Click Here

Postpartum Luncheon

Visit, share and learn from each other while navigating the roller coaster ride into motherhood.  All mothers and babies who were patients at The Women’s Center are invited to join us every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  No reservation required.  We look forward to seeing you!

Car Seat Safety for Newborns

Did you know that four out of five car seats are installed incorrectly?  In response to these startling statistics, The Women’s Center is offering free car seat classes for expectant parents.  In this class expectant parents will have classroom car seat education on how newborns should ride in a car, how to select a safety seat and how to use and install child restraints correctly.  Following the class, participants will go outside to their cars and install their car seats with the guidance of a certified car seat technician.  This class is recommended for parents during the sixth to seventh month of pregnancy but may be taken at any time.  Safety approved car seats are available at our cost of $45.  For those on public assistance programs, one car seat per child can be purchased for $20.
